Why I Do Not See 50 Shades of Grey

Standard

I have heard much discussion about the book and movie 50 Shades of Gray. I decided to make my opinion public since this is my blog and I can do that.

I have not and will not read the books or watch the movie. I also did not see the movie Magic Mike. I think these are a prime example of Satan getting us to compromise our morals.

Let me address my own weaknesses first.  I am a very visual person.  I am also an avid reader.  When I read books I have a movie playing in my head.  I see the characters and the action.  I also respond emotionally to movies. These books and movies are not images I want in my mind. The Apostle Paul instructed in Philippians 4:8 to think on whatever is true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, commendable, excellent and worthy of praise. Can anything in these books or movies be described in those terms? This is the same reason I do not read romance novels.

As a Christian woman, I am to live in such a way that I point others toward Christ. Apostle Paul tells us in Romans 14:21 that we should do nothingthat would cause a brother to stumble. How would a non-believer view my witness and testimony if I were seen watching these movies or reading the books? It’s not worth risking someone’s potential salvation.  Why would they want to become a Christian if we act no differently than the world?

It also sets up a double standard.  What if my husband wanted to watch a similar movie? I would not be ok with that. The pornography industry is strong and is after our husbands and sons.  How is this ok for women but not for men?

As Christian women we should be standing up and screaming no to this movie and others like it rather than planning parties for its release.
